Throughout 2009, the Museum of Copenhagen has worked locally in Nørrebro with a view to collecting new and alternative stories from the everyday-life of contemporary Nørrebro. What are the hallmarks of Nørrebro today? Where are the secret or dangerous places and squares? What do local citizens think of Nørrebro? - Such are the questions that guide our present collection activities in Nørrebro.

The missing faces of Nørrebro

The Museum of Copenhagen has hired a young and diverse group of employees comprising 11 very different youngsters between the ages of 17-26. Their heterogeneity mirrors the diversity of Nørrebro. During the past year these youths have worked on documenting, collecting and producing stories on and from contemporary Nørrebro. Many of the stories and perspectives on Nørrebro are of a personal nature. As such, they have resulted in a very distinctive type of material, formerly lacking from the Museum of Copenhagen's collections.

The material and stories resulting from the Nørrebro neighbourhood project are on view at the Museum of Copenhagen's new digital communication platform, the WALL. You can also explore the rest of the museum's collections from here, upload your images of Copenhagen and tell your story of the town.
