Toy boat retrieved from under Kongens Nytorv

Other toyboats have been retrieved from other Copenhagen excavations at Bremerholm and Operaen. Like with the toyhorse found same place, the toyboat has been preserved within the anaerobic soil conditions at central Copenhagen.
The boat is believed to be dated to the 17th Century from the surrounding finds. It was made from pine wood using the bark part of the tree for the base of the boat. From viewing the boat, the holes for the former wooden sails are still visible as is the former rudder. It is believed that the rectangular sections in central part of the boat, was as much for decoration as for making the boat sturdy. It is believed that the boat resembles a former barge used in the post-medieval period of Copenhagen.
