Brønshøj Museum

The Museum of Brønshøj is part of The Museum of Copenhagen and situated on Brønshøj Torv. Here you can see the exhibition "Hardship and Danger - Everyday Life and War during the 17th century and in contemporary society". The museum arranges historical walking-tours in the neighbourhood and provides guided tours in the exhibitions. The museum also offers teaching-sessions for school groups.
War and Everyday Life
When paying the museum of Brønshøj a visit, you will be transported back in time to when the Swedish Army established Carlstad, a large fortified military camp, in the Brønshøj area close to the town of Copenhagen. Objects typical of everyday life and miniature scale models that illustrate the sequence of events during the Dano-Swedish Wars from 1657-1660 can be seen in the abovementioned "Hardship and Danger" exhibition. However, War is also an element of today's society, which is why we have included video interviews with people whose everyday life has been affected by war in recent years in the exhibition, along with photographs taken of children living in contemporary refugee camps.

New exhibitions - innovative voices
At present the Museum of Brønshøj is undergoing a process of change. Amongst other initiatives, the museum is presently focused on developing an exhibition devoted to the history of the neighbourhood, whereby children can explore the respective childhoods of their grandparents and great-grandparents. Following on from this, it is our aim that diverse contemporary stories of the neighbourhood will be voiced in this exhibition, which is why we insist that ordinary members of the public participate in developing our upcoming temporary exhibitions.
Please note that certain areas of the museum-building are closed to the public at present for restoration purposes.
